During our bi-annual trip to Nova Scotia in 2018, we made a side trip to PEI. And that side trip proved to be enjoyable and also profitable. The proof of that was a set of paintings from many quiet corners on the island. They spoke to my heart as I walked the red soil of this tranquil island.
From Sea To Sea (North Point Lightstation)
Our National Anthem was ringing in my heart while I was standing at the northern tip of the island, looking out to the sea – water on both sides. Feeling extremely blessed by the provision from this land, we don’t count our blessings enough!
Fall Shades & Sand Dunes I (Jacques Cartier Provincial Park)
We have visited many beaches because we were driving along the seacoast. Instead of hearing the laughter of families, we only heard the seagulls calling out to each other. Instead of seeing sand castles by the water, we only witnessed the gentle swaying of the grass on sand dunes. When I turned toward the parking lot, the fall colours of the trees and brushes explained the reason why we didn’t see what we expected. Children have returned to school; foliage have turned colour… It’s a changing of season!
Pasture & Road To Avonlea (Cavendish & Avonlea Village)
Growing up with Lucy M Montgomery’s novels, one cannot truly visit PEI without a visit to the birthplace of “Anne of Green Gables”. Driving around in the Cavendish community has an effect on people literally walking back in time. I was expecting to see Anne (with an E); may be with Diana romping around or chasing some of the jersey cows…
When I followed the road the Avonlea Village, I could picture Sarah returning to the home she felt accepted and loved.
It was like “Chicken soup to one soul” when we pause and reflect upon our root and heritage, it has such anchoring effect on our well-being. Gratitude doesn’t come when we always think we deserve this world and are entitled to all the convenience of modernization.
Sand Dunes II (Brackley Beach)
After a few visit to different beaches, we realized those stop over wasn’t about the beaches, but rather, the alluring sand dunes. The smooth sand became a dance floor and the grass was accompanied by the gentle breeze with a beautiful tune.
Abundance (Greenwich)
The intention was to stop by the Greenwich beach to see if there is any sand dune. When we arrived, we were convinced that there wasn’t much to see because the parking lot was totally empty. We decided to go take a look since it was a long drive for nothing. We went out to admire the quiet beach; not even a seagull around…
When time for us to return to our car, we decided to take a different broad walk back. Lo and behold, it was like stepping into another world. The undergrowth on either side of the walk way was laced with the most colourful berries and foliage! My heart was filled with unspeakable joy after watching an autumn show put out by Mother Nature.
